What part of a wedding day do you quietly prepare for the most — even if the couple never notices?

When shooting I always make sure I’m prepped and ready for the rings and first kiss. The first kiss in particular is such an iconic moment I always ensure I’ve got the perfect angle and shot for it.

What’s something you always make sure couples feel on the day, no matter how busy things get?

That they’re fundamentally the most important part of the day. That doesn’t always means ensuring they’re on camera 100% of the time – sometimes it’s reading a moment and letting them have it to themselves.

When plans shift (as they always do), what helps you make good decisions for everyone involved?

Shoot days are dynamic and can often be high pressure. Split-second decisions need to be made and I’ve found that a mixture of communication before the shoot and continued discussion throughout the day makes all the difference. Luckily the people I work with most have a similar disposition so often a quiet nod or glance is enough to convey what’s needed.

What’s a small wedding-day moment that reminds you why you love doing this work?

My absolute favourite shot of the day is the first look. Watching two people genuinely smile at each other with unadulterated joy and love reminds me why I love working within the wedding-o-sphere.

How would you want a couple to describe working with you after the wedding is over?

I’d love it if a couple talked about how relaxed they felt in my company, maybe that they haven’t laughed so much in years. Maybe they invite me to stay with them for a weekend. Maybe we grow old together. I see myself dying peacefully with all my wedding couples.
